Lubricant Guide for Sex Toys

There are many different types of lubricant on the market, and it’s important to match up the right type of lubricant to the right type of sex toy. They vary in their consistency, taste, longevity and ingredients and so we’ve provided a guide to help you choose which one is right for you, and also some important rules to their application.

Latex sex toys are only compatible with water-based and silicone-based lubricants, and are definitely not compatible with oil-based products like baby oil or Vaseline.

Silicone or Cyberskin sex toys will actually be damaged if used with silicone-based lubricants. If you are going to use them, and only have a silicone-based lube then ensure your toy is at least covered with a condom before application.

Consider the consistency of the lube you are looking to purchase. Many people prefer thinner lubricants for vaginal play and sex toys, and thicker lubes for anal usage. If you are after a lubricant which does not get too sticky, then stick to a water-based product.

Silicone-based lubes are popular for anal usage as they can stay wetter for longer, particularly as the anus does not produce any natural lubrication. Silicone lubes feel nice and slick like oil, but are compatible with latex-based sex toys. Remember, silicone lubes do not wash away without the use of soap and water. Just to re-iterate, do not use silicone based lubes with silicone products as they can create a chemical reaction which causes the sex toy to change shape.

Purchasing a lubricant to accompany your sex toy is certainly recommended. It’s certainly better than using your own saliva which can dry out a lot quicker, and can increase the likelihood of infection.
