Lubricant Guide for Sex toys

Once you have chosen your perfect sex toy, it is time to ‘prepare it’. There are hundreds of lubricants out there to choose from and it is important to find the right one for you. Here is a short run down of different varieties of lubes available.

Latex sex toys can only be used with water-base lubes or silicone based lubricant. This is because of the nature of the material. In order not to damage your new toy, you need to steer clear of any kind of oily lubricant such as Vaseline and Baby Oil. Silicone based lubricants tend to stay slippery for longer so if you are new to using sex toys, this would be the right one for you.

Silicone toys or Cyberskin sex toys should not be used with any form of silicone based lubricant. These will damage the surface of the toy and could render it unusable. You should use water based lubes as these are safe and will not react with the silicone toy. If you find yourself caught short and do not have any other lubricant, you should at least cover the toy with a condom before applying the lube to try and protect it, but it is still not recommended.

Anal toys need to stay wetter for longer in order to be comfortable. This is because the anus does not secrete any of its own natural lubricant. When using anal toys you should opt for a silicone based lubricant as they tend to remain wet. Again this type of lube is compatible with latex toys but not with silicone toys so just double check before using it.

Lubricants are not only for use with sex toys and should regularly be used for any type of anal sex. If you find you do not generate enough of your own vaginal lubricant, then by using one of the above, sex can become far more comfortable. There is also a huge range of special lubes such as warming, tingle and flavoured lubes. This can be great fun for use with a partner – warming lubes heat up during use whether it is foreplay or penetration and can add an extra sensation. Flavoured lubes are safe to consume should you wish to lick them off. Tingle lubes are newer than the other forms but tingle during application and continue to tingle whilst you continue to play. If you have never tried them – you should give it a go.

Consistency of lubes varies from product to product so it is best to find one that is right for you. There can be thick lubes which are perfect for anal penetration and thin, slick lubes which many prefer for vaginal playtime. You may prefer sticky lubes to oily lubes, however if you are looking to avoid the sticky lubes, stick to water-based.

It is highly recommended to always use a lubricant with your sex toy and essential to use with anal sex toys to prevent infection.
